On the 21st of March, the 43 Battery 1985 intake of the Gunners gathered at the historic Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria to celebrate a milestone—their 40-year reunion. This special event was attended by 16 members directly affiliated with 43 Battery, alongside a few of their wives and children, as well as three members from the 141 Battery. Also in attendance was General Koos Laubscher (Ret.) and Major Danie Crafford (Ret.).

The day was filled with nostalgia, laughter, and camaraderie as old friends reconnected, reminiscing about their shared experiences and military service. Some stories, never before heard, surfaced for the first time, adding a new layer of depth to the brotherhood that has endured over the decades.

A highlight of the reunion was the gun drill, a tradition that brought back memories of discipline, precision, and teamwork. Attendees also had the opportunity to take a commemorative photograph in front of two iconic guns—one being a replica of a 140mm G2 gun, meticulously built by Adriaan Theron, and the other a 2-pounder gun crafted by Dirk Bloem. These powerful symbols of artillery heritage served as a fitting backdrop to a day dedicated to honouring the past.

In true South African spirit, the gathering would not have been complete without a braai. Throughout the day, attendees shared meals and exchanged stories, reliving moments of bravery, humour, and camaraderie that have bound them together for four decades.

The 40-year reunion of the 43 Battery 1985 intake was more than just a gathering—it was a reaffirmation of lifelong bonds and a tribute to the shared history of the Gunners. As the sun set over Pretoria, the echoes of laughter and the warmth of friendship lingered, ensuring that this special occasion would be remembered for years to come.
