Members of the Association among whom are former Officers’ Commanding of the Transvaal Horse Artillery (now Sandfontein Artillery Regiment) gathered at the Rand Club in Johannesburg on this sombre day to observe a long held Regimental Tradition.
Following the death of former Officer Commanding Lt Col Mark Leonard Dabner on the 13th February 2023, it was necessary to observe the tradition of breaking the glass bottom of his pewter beer mug.
After a fitting tribute and dedication by Lt Col Brent Chalmers, and the enjoyment of a last drink from the mug, it was smashed in keeping with the tradition.
Members of the late Col Dabner’s Family in attendance included his widow Amanda and his Brother Kent and his wife and son. All members were treated to a nice lunch at the rand Club after the vent, where a lot of reminiscing and celebrating of the life of Lt Col Mark Dabner took place.
