The General of the Gunners’ handover ceremony took place at Fort Ikapa, Cape Town, 1 June. Both incoming, Maj Gen W. Mazibuko and outgoing General of the Gunners’ Lt Gen J. Mbuli fired a salvo on the Nelson Mandela Artillery Regiments ceremonial Gun before the handover ceremony in the Fort Ikapa HQ which was handled superbly by FSM CWO Clive Mauer ADA FMN and FSM Colin De Koker Arty FMN. In attendance were Lt Gen (Ret) V. Masondo a previous C Army and now the Military Ombud as well as Deputy Chairman of the Gunners’ Association , Brig Gen J. Baird, Brig Gen L. Puckree SA Army ADA FMN GOC, Brig Gen J. Maso, SA Army Arty FMN GOC, Brig Gen Steenkamp and Brig Gen Mafune, Unit Commanders and RSM’s and ex servicemen Veterans. The sponsor of the event Reutech Radar Systems COO Mr Kuben Thaver in his speech spoke of the new technology in Air Defence developed at their facility in Stellenbosch. Lunch was served and typical Gunner camaraderie and fellowship was the order of the day.
