On Saturday, October 26, a dedicated group of volunteers gathered at the Vaal Technorama to carry out essential maintenance tasks on a historic piece of artillery—the 25-pounder gun. This initiative, known as Project Bosuil, reflects the commitment of various community members to preserve this significant artifact for future generations. The gun, which is in reasonably good condition, now has a fresh coat of paint that will help protect it from weathering and maintain its historical integrity.

The activity was spearheaded by Okkie Jooste, Chairman of the Kiewiet Unit, South African Defence Force Association (SADFA). Jooste was joined by passionate members from the Vereeniging Branch Gunners, Sandy Shellhole, and the Kiewiet Unit, all of whom worked together to ensure the success of this restoration effort. The sense of camaraderie among the volunteers and their shared purpose infused the event with a great spirit.
Generous contributions from local organizations made Project Bosuil possible. The paint was sponsored by AfriForum, while Transmart Logistics provided additional consumables required for the day. In addition to supplying materials, Transmart Logistics treated the volunteers to a delicious Boerewors Roll lunch, complete with a soft drinks, as a gesture of thanks for their hard work.

Project Bosuil exemplifies the power of community collaboration in preserving history. Through the efforts of volunteers and supportive organizations, the 25-pounder gun now stands proudly, shielded against the elements, and ready to tell its story for years to come.
