Register of Heritage Guns

The Gunners’ Association of South Africa has published a Register of 544  Heritage Guns in the country.

The location of the guns is varied and ranges from SANDF bases to museums, city halls and MOTH shellholes. Many have been restored or at least repainted in recent years but there is a large backlog of guns needing attention.

Not surprisingly, the biggest number of guns on the Registers is the 25Pdr (GV1) followed by the 3.7” QF Bofors LAA gun, the 3.7” Howitzer and the 13Pdr QF field guns.

This Register will continue to be updated as more guns are located. Readers are encouraged to submit additions, corrections and pictures to roy.andersen@mweb.co.za. Please also inform us if you can contribute expertise or funds towards the restoration of  these guns which form an important part of our military heritage.
