Attendance at the 61 Mechanized Battalion Group Memorial Parade – 23 August 2025

On Saturday, 23 August 2025, the 61 Mechanized Battalion Group Veterans Association held their annual Memorial Parade in honour of those who served and sacrificed. The solemn occasion was attended by veterans, families, and friends who gathered to pay their respects during the memorial parade held at the Ditsong Museum of Military History.

The Patron of the Association, Brigadier General Bok Smit, delivered an inspiring address in which he spoke about the significance of responsibility and reflected on those who carried it with dedication and honour throughout their service.

Gnr Clive Wilsworth, Deputy Chairmain of the Gunners’ Association of South Africa, laid a wreath on behalf of the Gunners’ Association.

Following the parade, the Gunners, together with members of the 61 Mech Veterans Association, gathered at the Steel Helmet Shellhole for fellowship, where they enjoyed boerewors rolls and refreshments. The day was marked by camaraderie, shared memories, and a spirit of unity among all who attended.

A meaningful and memorable day was had by all.
