Johannesburg 30 May 2022.
Members of the Johannesburg Branch and the Heritage Gun Restoration Committee attended the unveiling of a granite marker at the Johannebsurg Zoo gun on Monday 30th May 2022.
The marker was unveiled by Councillor Vasco Da Gama, Speaker of Council of the City of Johannesburg.
The silent guard was provided by the South African Army Artillery Formation under the command of Bombardier Motlapema who executed his duties under the watchful eye of CWO Jacques Niemand The Formation WO of the South African Army Artillery Formation.
Maj Gen Roy Andersen delivered a short overview of the restoration project, which is actually the second time that the Gunners’ Association has restored this same game in the last 15 years.
A special thanks must go to the Office of the Speaker of Council and the Executive and Team of the Johannesburg Zoo.
A special mention must go to Lt Col (Ret) Godfrey Giles for spearheading this event with the City of Joburg.
