After the Gunners’ Memorial Service filming ceremony held recently in Potchefstroom, Lt Gen P.O. Du Preez handed over the post of National President of the Gunners’ Association to Maj Gen R.C.Andersen.
In thanking Lt Gen Du Preez for his long and selfless service to the Gunners’ Association Maj Gen Andersen noted that he had personally met all the National Presidents of the Gunners’ Association except for one. He mentioned that it was an honour to be appointed as the National President by quoting Mark Twain, “A man experiences two birthdays in his life, Firstly when he is actually born, and secondly when he finds out why he was born.”
In handing over Lt Gen P.O. Du Preez thanked all the Gunners he had served with for the loyal support and encouragement he had received during his tenure as National President.
Lt Gen Du Preez was honoured with the appointment as Honorary Life President on the occasion.
