Over the period 5-7 March, 2021 Gnrs Hoole, Bloem and Andersen accompanied by MOTH Boberg visited Bloemfontein to update the Heritage Gun Register.

We visited the School of Armour and 1 SSB Museums where we received great support from the two units. Thereafter we inspected the guns at the High Court, the Anglo-Boer War Museum and the Leeuwberg Kazerne. The latter visit ended with a braai hosted by Collin Steyn and MC Heunis.

We were unable to enter the Old Fort Museum, which holds what is left of the PE 6” Haig Gun, as the gates are locked and it is overgrown with grass and weeds.

The trip was very successful and 27 new guns were identified and 9 entries on the Register confirmed.

This brings the total guns on the Register to 426 of which 212 (50%) have been confirmed.

The pictures below were taken at various locations on the trip, together with some old ones from the Old Fort Museum.

On the way back the team visited the home of Dirk Bloem in Potchefstroom to inspect the progress of the Zoo Gun. See picture above.

Stay safe!
