LAARSA Jo’burg Wing is hosting Maj Gen Roy Andersen (Rtd)

General Andersen will give a talk on “Why SA needs a better resourced and equipped SANDF”.

Maj Gen Andersen was commissioned into the Artillery in 1966. He commanded the Transvaal Horse Artillery from 1976 to 1979, and was thereafter appointed as Colonel Artillery and subsequently Senior Staff Officer Operations of 7 Infantry Division. He was the Honorary Colonel of the Transvaal Horse Artillery from 1990-2019. Maj Gen Andersen was promoted to the rank of Major General in October 2003. He was Chairman of The South African Delville Wood Commemorative Museum Trust from 2000 to 2014.

Positions that Maj Gen Andersen recently occupied are Chief Defence Reserves for the South African National Defence Force, as well as a member of the Defence Staff Council and Military Command Council. He served as General of the Gunners from December 2005 to May 2015 and was elected National President of the Gunners Association from May 2021. In 2021 he was appointed as a Master Gunner in the SA Army. He is a Trustee of The South African National Museum of Military History Building and Development Trust and Chairman of the SANDF Education Trust.
