On Friday 15 August the School of Artillery’s Battery Commanders course visited the DITSONG National Museum of Military History. The visit was hosted by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Roy Andersen (5th from right on the photo), and Alan Sinclair, Museum Director (Pink shirt next to Roy). The course of 8 students was led by majors Stan Schwartz (left) and Garrick Owen (centre with Red tie) both Senior Instructors; and MWO Oom Dan Modiakgotla, the Wing Sergeant Major. Also included in the group were Roy’s guests Jakes Jacobs and Frans Botha; and Clive Wilsworth Chairman of the building Trust. The Building Trust is currently busy converting the Museum’s old workshop into display areas for unit memorabilia.

After an enlightening tour of primarily artillery and AA guns, Roy invited all to lunch at The View in Parktown. This establishment is the home of the Transvaal Scottish Regimental Association and also houses a museum with a rich collection of Transvaal Scottish memorabilia. After an informative tour and viewing of the of the Regiment’s history and uniforms conducted by Spike Bekker, Chairman of the Association and excellent lunch was served.
